The latest season of America’s Got Talent delivered another memorable moment when married mentalist duo James and Marina returned to the stage and stunned both the judges and audience with a performance that seemed to defy explanation.
The couple, who first gained attention through their unique telepathy act, appeared on the June 23 episode of the competition and quickly became one of the most talked-about acts of the night. Their performance combined elements of mentalism, prediction, and audience participation, leaving even the show’s experienced judges struggling to understand how the demonstrations were accomplished.
Before beginning, James and Marina took steps to assure everyone that no hidden technology was being used. Marina stood apart from her husband while judge Mel B carefully checked her for communication devices. After the inspection, Mel B confirmed that she could not find anything that would allow Marina to secretly receive information.
To increase the challenge, Marina was then blindfolded, preventing her from seeing any of the items involved in the act. James turned to audience members and requested random personal belongings. The first item selected was a parking ticket. While Marina remained blindfolded, she correctly identified the object and even recited the ticket number with apparent accuracy.
The demonstrations continued as audience members handed over a variety of unexpected items. Marina successfully identified objects ranging from pet waste bags to a hotel key card. With each correct answer, the crowd’s reactions grew louder, and the judges appeared increasingly puzzled.
The act became even more impressive when Simon Cowell was invited to participate. A deck of playing cards was brought onstage and shuffled by Cowell himself. James then asked Marina to identify the cards. Despite having no visible way to see the deck, she proceeded to name the cards correctly, drawing astonished reactions from both the judges and the audience.
Meanwhile, host Terry Crews helped prepare another challenge behind the scenes. He collected several personal belongings from audience members and placed them inside a covered box. The contents remained hidden throughout the performance.
For the final segment, Terry personally covered Marina’s eyes while James removed items from the box one at a time. Marina correctly identified a surprising range of objects, including a cellphone, wallet, eye drops, an orange, a hat, and even a cookie. Each successful identification added another layer of mystery to the performance.
The most dramatic moment came when James held up a one-dollar bill. Not only did Marina correctly identify the bill, but she also accurately recited its serial number. The reveal prompted audible gasps from the audience and left the judges visibly shocked.
When the act concluded, the entire panel rose to its feet for a standing ovation. Mel B described it as one of her favorite acts of the season, while Howie Mandel joked about wanting to know which dating app had brought the couple together. Simon Cowell praised the performance, calling it more than simple magic and describing it as brilliant.
Longtime viewers may recognize James and Marina from their previous appearance on America’s Got Talent Season 17 under the name Mind2Mind. Although they did not advance to the live shows at that time, their return demonstrated how much their act has evolved.
