Bill Taylor did not walk onto the America’s Got Talent stage looking like a conventional music-show contestant.
He came from Middlesboro, Kentucky, worked as a truck driver hauling mobile homes, and brought his band, The Appalachian Heathens, with him.
Then they started playing Bob Dylan’s “Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door.”
What began as a familiar classic quickly took on a distinctly Appalachian and country-inspired sound. By the time the performance ended, all four judges had voted yes, giving Taylor and his band a place in the next round.
The Truck Driver Behind the Performance
Bill Taylor was working a regular job when the America’s Got Talent opportunity arrived.
During his audition introduction, Taylor explained that he was a truck driver who hauled mobile homes. He also made it clear that music was an important part of his life and that his ultimate dream was to make a living for his family while continuing to do something he loved.

She told the group that coming to America’s Got Talent had been the right decision and praised the overall performance.
